The Ground Disappears Beneath Our Feet

A poignant New Yorker article by Sam Knight about the lost footpaths of England and the people who are working to remap them and keep them public before a 2026 deadline. But underneath that it's about how places and their meanings can get lost right beneath our feet.

Plus it includes this fantastic quote: "In England, public paths are made by walking them. You can make a new, legally recognized footpath by simply treading up and down it, with a few friends, for a period of twenty years."
